Dear Fellow Lions:
We have just returned from the International Convention in Boston, and I must say that it is amazing how one organization can bring together so many people from all over the World for one purpose, "To Serve". The Lions we met during our group training at District Governors School and during the convention itself are not just fellow Lions, they have become our friends. It is great to be a Lion and to be able to meet so many wonderful Lions from all over the World that you can call friends.
The International theme this year is "We Serve". We are getting back to the basic of serving our community. It seems like all we do is ask for money, from the clubs in our district all the way back to the community. We need to get back into our community and to start serving our community as we were indented to do. It can be a simple project of just two or three Lions cleaning out flower beds and planting new flowers around your community, to painting a house for the elderly. How about mowing someone's yard that can't do it themselves? These projects don't have to be big projects, start off slow and build up. Make it a goal to do one service project a month. Keep track of what you do, the hours and the manpower it took and what the results were. Review your projects in December, then make plans for what you what to do for the next six months starting in January 2007. I bet that your club to will be alive again and new members will have joined because of what you are doing. Try this, ask someone to come out and help with a project or two then ask them to join your club. Once they see they can help their community and not just attend a meeting to meet, eat and go home, they will want to join your club. Everyone is so busy now days. Their time is too valuable to just eat, burp and go home. They want to be involved and be active. Now is the time to start a plan and put that plan into action.
During this year, please send me photos by email or by mail of your projects and activities with a short note outlining what you did. I want to spotlight your club in our monthly newsletter and on our web-site.
Over the next few months I will be contacting clubs to set up my official visit. If you have a special date in mind, please call now to arrange that date. I am here to help you and your club.
Thanks for all you do in your club and in your community. Remember, Lions of District 2-X2, We Are the Knights of the Blind and We Serve for All The World To See.

Announcing the Lions News Network and LQ
This summer Lions Clubs International is launching the Lions News Network (LNN), a place for Lions and non-Lions to watch a variety of video programs, including the ground-breaking Lions online newsmagazine "LQ - Lions Quarterly." LNN is accessible through the Lions Clubs International Web site (www.lionsclubs.org) and also offers Lions the chance to order video presentations and download public service announcements (PSAs) online. Visit the LNN in the News & Events section under "PR Tools" with a direct link of
http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/content/lnn/index.html. Be sure to promote this great resource, along with the innovative and original "LQ" to your fellow Lions. Please submit story ideas, information
about interesting upcoming activities and eye-catching photos to LQ@lionsclubs.org.
From The Desk Of Vdg Jim Merritt
The New Year has begun, and we are excited to be a part of the excitement. First of all, many thanks go to IPDG Leon and Lion Nancy for an excellent year. You both have added much to the district in ways too numerous to mention here.
The first event I'll mention is the Cabinet meeting. We need all Lions to attend the first cabinet session under our new DG Becky. It will be held July 22nd, and it will be hosted by the Lions of Bonham. This year we have a patriotic theme, and everyone is to dress in red, white, and blue. There will be business meetings, training, and activities for the spouses or guests that plan to attend. Be sure and get the updates from Governor Becky or PDG Brian regarding the times and places. This will be a Friday night and Saturday meeting.
On August 4th and 5th, we will be heading down to Kerrville, Texas for the Council of Governor's meeting. This conference involves all 16 of the governors, and there the business operations decisions are worked out at a state level. This is not a closed meeting and all Lions are welcomed. You and any guests are encouraged to comedown and get involved at the camp level and state level. When you visit, you will see why the camp is held in high esteem by the campers and Lions.
We all want to help support Governor Becky, and one way is to have your club or members purchase ads for the newsletter. Contact me or PDG Brian for the buying or selling of an ad.
Please contact me by phone: 903-832-3681 or by email: jimmerritt@team-national.com with any questions or concerns. We are here to serve.
