Becky's Bits

Our own DGE Becky won the grand prize in the Ross’ Rangers Raffle. Was she excited? Let’s say she was "floating" the rest of the weekend. Pictured with Lion Becky is PDG Brian Whitenack and First Vice President (soon to be President) of Lions International Lion Jimmy Ross. Way to go!

Texas is making big plans for the installation of Lion Jimmy Ross as President of Lions Club International. He will be the first President from Texas in 25 years.

The Hardin-Simmons University Marching Band and its 6 white horses will lead off the Texas delegation. Following will be Lion Jimmy Ross and his family with the Lions of Texas backing him. There will be 3 waves of Texas Lions - the elite dressed in chaps, the regulars dressed in Texas vests, and the Ross Rangers dressed in blue denim shirts.

News From International

Family Membership Dues Rate: At the Boston Convention in July, the delegates will vote on an amendment regarding a Family Membership Initiative and Family Dues Rate. Read below the reasons for the suggested change.

Lions Clubs International now has the opportunity to become a leading force in worldwide family volunteerism with the establishment of the Family Dues Structure. Coupled with the introduction of Family-Friendly Clubs, this dues structure will position the association as a dynamic, forward-thinking organization focused on answering the needs of young families as well as serving communities worldwide.

The changing dynamics of family life, as well as new economic realities, have made it difficult for many families to be able to commit time to traditional civic organizations and service clubs. Now, the association can do something about these trends by adopting a family membership program and dues structure. It would not only help interested clubs in recruiting the younger generation, but it would also demonstrate to the world that Lions remains the most dynamic and relevant service club in town.

The time for reaching out to more families is now. Volunteering together allows families to share precious time with each other and to pass down values of giving and service from one generation to the next. Children raised in a volunteering environment tend to continue that practice into their adult years. By including families, we are helping families establish the tradition of volunteering.

This proposal is essential to strengthen the association’s ability to continue its legacy of serving those in need in the coming decades ahead.
