Governor Leon's Log | |
Hello, Team, we are finally back from Hong Kong and are ready to get this new year underway. The trip was great. We had some great training sessions, met some wonderful Lions from all over the world, saw lots of interesting things, and ate some incredible food. Of course the highlight of the trip was when the spouses were told to pull the training ribbons off our badges signifying that the training was over and we became "Governors." It was great!
Now it is time to go to work. I have all my club meetings scheduled for the year. Watch the newsletter and website for your date. If there is any conflict, please give me a call so we can arrange a different date.
We are having several training sessions. One was held in June. Another will be held this Saturday, July 16. The final scheduled one will be Saturday, July 23, at Chapel Hill schools in Mt. Pleasant. I hope you can attend. If not, let me know a better time for you, and we will plan another. Our trainers have been giving their time to help and for that, I thank them all.
August will be busy. The Council of Governors meeting will be held the first weekend. You are all invited to come to Kerrville for those activities.
The second weekend in August, Lion Nancy and I go to Michigan to tour the Leader Dog facilities. I look forward to that, and hope to share the experience with each of you.
Then, August 20 is our first Cabinet meeting of the year. Canton Lions will host the meeting and they are making lots of plans. You will meet all the new Cabinet officers and will have the opportunity to hear Sandy and Hal Griffin speak about their favorite topics, Leader Dog and Texas Lions Camp. I hope to see you there.
I am hearing plans for region and zone meetings. This is good news. We will be having a Governor's contest this year and attendance at these meetings will give your club more points.
Let me wish you a successful year and remind you that I am here for you. Call me if I can do anything to help.

I hope you have been able to attend one of Governor Leon's training classes. Depending on the date you get this newsletter, you may be able to attend the class scheduled for Saturday, July 23rd in Mt. Pleasant. If you are a Club President of Secretary, one of your requirements to being 100% President or Secretary is that you attend one of these classes. Governor Leon has put together a great training team and wait until you see the training manuals they will receive when they attend one of these meetings. Governor Leon and Nancy are to be commended for their efforts in putting such a manual together for each club. A lot of effort and hard work went into putting them together, and I would like to say THANK YOU GOVERNOR and LION NANCY for a wonderful club manual!
If you were unable to attend a training session, please contact the Governor and ask about hosting a training class of 10 or more in your area. These classes are set up for training all Officers of your club.
Are you supporting our new Governor? Don't know how? One of the best ways to show support is to get your club and/or members to purchase ads for the Governor's newsletter. Cost varies from half-page ads of $200 for 12 issues to a signature line support for only $10. Help support the Governor by buying or selling an ad today.
On August 5th, Governor Leon and I will be heading to Kerrville, Texas for our Council of Governor's meeting. This is when all 16 Governors of the State come together and decide the business of the State. All Lions and guests are invited to attend the Council meeting on Friday morning. This is not a closed door session. Saturday, August 6, is Camp Day. The morning starts off with a breakfast meeting at 6:30 a.m., followed by break out committee meetings at 9 a.m. Most committee meetings are finished by 11:00 for early lunch and/or shopping at the Camp store. The Camp Board meeting starts at 1:00 p.m. and ends late in the afternoon. These meetings are also open to any Lion and their guest. We encourage you to attend and to get involved.
Wee need more Lions to get involved at both the State level and the Camp. Will you be that person? Will you step up and get involved? Let me know if you can - we will work together to find a mentor just for you.
Another date we ask you to set aside for Lionism is Saturday, August 20. Canton Lions Club is hosting our 1st Cabinet meeting. Details should be forthcoming. Watch your mail or newsletter for this information. Your attendance is requested and is greatly appreciated and very much needed.
And lastly, how is your club doing? Over the next couple of months, we will be highlighting some of the things your club does (both projects and fundraisers). Our motto is "WE SERVE". This will be my topic for next month's newsletter. How are you serving your community? Let me know by calling 903-758-5058 or email bcbeckyw@aol.com.
